Hávamál 72 — Kin & Memory | Matte Poster
What we leave behind survives through those who remember us.
Hávamál 72 speaks of a son born even after his father has died, and of the memory-stones that endure when kin honor those who came before them. Legacy is not preserved by monuments alone; it survives because someone remains who believes a life is worth remembering.
The verse reflects a powerful responsibility between generations: we inherit more than possessions, and we leave behind more than possessions. Memory, reputation, obligation, and the work of those before us are carried forward by the people who follow.
This print captures that relationship between generations — a reminder that remembrance itself is an obligation, and that what we build can continue beyond our own lifetime.
Featuring Hávamál 72 from the Henry Adams Bellows translation.
